PROJECT BENEFITS
The Mt Mercer Wind Farm will provide substantial benefits to the communities involved. It is proposed to erect 64 wind turbines which will produce enough energy to power the city of Ballarat and result in a reduction of more than 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum.
The wind farm would help secure the region’s future by creating jobs, investment and flow-on effects, enhancing community wellbeing. The tangible benefits the project brings to the area will be apparent early on with the creation of 200 jobs during construction, as well as related employment opportunities for the local community.
Post-construction, the wind farm will result in the creation of 20 permanent jobs.
Wind development is compatible with other forms of land use including animal husbandry and farming so landowners will be able to continue to operate their farms as they have done in the past.
